Talk:Survivor: The Australian Outback

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just out of curiosity, whereabouts was it filmed? Depending on which direction you go in, 3 hours from Cairns can be not far off as outback as it gets, or a 4 star hotel. (An idle question from someone who has never seen a Survivor trailer, never mind an episode.) Tannin

This page, http://www.bootsnall.com/travelogues/jenleo/mar01.shtml , should give you some details. Moncrief 11:39, Mar 14, 2004 (UTC)

Ahh, thankyou for that very prompt answer, Moncrief, and a link that gave me chapter and verse. YEs, stunningly beautiful country through there, but not exactly outback. Tannin

[edit] Redirects

Why are some of the player name links redirected back to this article? If there aren't any articles, isn't it better to have the links remain red to indicate this? MK2 04:47, 26 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Redirection

Not only that, it leaves good edits and writes out in the cold. I'm not ashamed to say I've tried. It just seems so unfair to follow up a speedy deletion with a lockdown for that particular player. <Messy Thinking>

[edit] Skupin & Immunity

The article states that the Immunity challenge had already been run prior to Skupins injury, does anyone have a source for this? It's not part of the actual episode. AdamJacobMuller 05:31, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

I just re-watched the episode (not a fun thing to do) and they specifically state that they didn't run the immunity challenge prior to Skupin's Injury AdamJacobMuller 05:44, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Group deletion nomination for Survivor contestants

You may wish to participate in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Keith Famie which is discussing the deletion of Outback contestants Keith Famie, Jeff Varner, Rodger Bingham, Gervase Peterson, Nick Brown (Survivor), and a couple non-Outback ones. --Rob 14:51, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] POV in the Elimination Votes section

I realized after I made the change that all the Survivor season articles have these sections and didn't exactly want to change all of them, but these sections are seriously in need of citation/removal. As an example,

Jerri Manthey - Was voted off by both most of her former tribe mates and all of Kucha's former tribe mates. Jerri is one of the least popular Survivor players ever. A lot of people thought that she was a conniving and deceitful player and most were ready to be rid of her leading to her elimination. Just as she believed the men of her tribe were terrified of Alicia, so did the men on the other tribe seem terrified of her.

Sentence 1 is ambiguous. Sentence 2 is POV without a source. Sentence 3 is ambiguous and POV. Sentence 4 is POV and almost certainly wrong. Doctofunk 15:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Sentence 1 is true. Sentence 2 isn't POV. Look at the poll at CBS.com]. Sentence 3 is from the commentaries in every episode. Sentence 4 is from her commentary. TeckWizTalkContribsGuestbook 20:54, 28 July 2006 (UTC)
Sentence 1 should be as specific as possible, ie Jerri received votes from everyone but her ally Amber. "Most of" is ambiguous. Sentence 2 should say "A poll on CBS.com showed Jerri to have the lowest rating of all Outback cast members." and link to the source. Sentence 3 and 4 need sources also. "A lot of" is ambiguous. I don't see anything anywhere to suggest anyone was terrified of Jerri. All in all, I think this section of the article (and ones for other seasons) can use some improvement; right now I think they include a lot of personal interpretation and POV. Yeah I keep having my edits reverted without any explanation given anywhere, which isn't how this is supposed to work. I feel strongly that the Elimination Votes sections in all the Survivor pages are highly biased and POV. The program never actually shows the conversations that lead to castaways' voting decisions; rather it's edited to make good TV. So how can you give a specific reason why someone was voted out? I'd ask that someone either cite sources, remove these sections, or explain to me why they should remain. Doctofunk 04:30, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

When they vote they don't show everyone talking to the camera for suspense. But after the show, as the credits are rolling, it shows everyone casting their vote and saying why they voted for that person TeckWizTalkContribs# of Edits 13:06, 26 August 2006 (UTC).
If this is the source that the commentary was drawn from, it needs to referenced and a disclaimer added, ie "According to tribemates' testimonies, Nick was voted out because of..." This interview would suggest that what contestants tell the cameras is not necessarily true. Also, I'm just not sure whether the level of detail is necessary, given that the article links to writeups of each episode. I'd much rather see a detailed voting record, as in Survivor: All-Stars, perhaps with links to each episode included in the table. Doctofunk 19:20, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
New editions of Survivor have voting histories. I am actually the one who created the table on Survivor: All Stars. It does take some time to do. I'm not sure if you know how to create the tables, but if you do, go ahead and put it in. You can get the info from theVoting Table on CBS.com. If you don't know how to/don't want to, I will be happy to do it next week before I start school and become bery busy. If a table is created, the elim notes should still stay. Also, if you make the table, I wouldn't start it on the article because you probably won't have time to do it in one edit. Consider making a user subpage and putting it there. I did the voting history table, it took a few hours to do but i got it done. 3bay sam 20:08, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
