[edit] Help!

I've found too many synonyms of the scientific name of this species... Are they Ariidae or Pimelodidae? Are they Pseudoplatystoma or Sorubim? Coruscans or corruscans? etc. etc. If an expert on this comes up, please enlighten us all.

Checked: http://www.amazonian-fish.co.uk/indexpime.html, http://silurus.acnatsci.org/ACSI/taxa/Genera_by_Family/Genera_Ariidae.html, http://www.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life/pisces/actinopterygii/siluriformes/ariidae/ and many others.

The valid name is P. corruscans (FishBase is your authoritative friend in that regard). P. coruscans is an objective junior synonym, as are Sorubim caparary, Platystoma corruscans and Silurus macrocephalus. As to taxonomy, this may shift according to genetic studies, but I believe grounds for considering them Pimelodidae are stronger; Ariidae are chiefly marine and bear frontal bony plates which I don't recall ever seeing in a surubí.
