Survival of the Fittest is an annual professional wrestling tournament held by Ring of Honor. The genesis of Survival of the Fittest was an effort to carry on Maryland Championship Wrestling's Shane Shamrock Memorial Cup, under their request after they went out of business in 2003 (they have since returned and reinstated the cup under their name). Ring of Honor's tournament has always been called Survival of the Fittest; they never actually adopted the Shane Shamrock name.

The premise of the tournament is that twelve wrestlers face off in six one-on-one matches to begin the show that the tournament is held on, and the six winners advance to a six-way elimination main event. Beginning in 2005, the winner of Survival of the Fittest gained the right to book any match he wished.

This event took place on June 24, 2004 in Philadelphia, PA.

  • Mark Briscoe def. Alex Shelley (10:11)
    • As Shelley attempted to reverse Briscoe's Texas Cloverleaf attempt, Briscoe countered into a jackknife pin.
  • Colt Cabana def. Trent Acid (7:56)
    • Cabana won with the Peretti Special (half nelson and near leg grapevine with a roll through).
  • Austin Aries & Roderick Strong def. John Walters & Josh Daniels (12:46)
    • Daniels was beaten with a 450 splash from Aries.
    • This match was originally scheduled as only Aries vs. Walters, but it became a tag team match after Strong, Shelley, and Jack Evans attacked Walters before the match began. Since Aries scored the fall over Daniels, he advanced to the main event.
  • Homicide def. Jay Briscoe (14:19)
    • Homicide hit a lariat for the win.
  • Bryan Danielson def. Jack Evans by submission (12:00)
    • Danielson won with a bearhug boston crab.
  • Samoa Joe def. Matt Stryker (9:36)
    • Joe pinned Stryker with the Island Driver.
  • CM Punk def. The Outcast Killaz, The Ring Crew Express, and Dixie & Hydro in a Scramble tag team match to retain the ROH Tag Team Championship (4:53)
    • Punk pinned the members of The Ring Crew Express after Hydro hit both of them with a double dragon suplex.
    • Prior to the match, Punk told his tag team championship partner Colt Cabana to go the back and rest up for the main event, since none of the teams in the match presented a threat.
  • CM Punk def. Hydro (18:48)
    • Punk caught Hydro in an Oklahoma roll for the pin.
    • This impromptu match came about after Hydro complained that Punk stole the win from him in the scramble match, and called Punk a pussy to goad him into taking it.
  • Bryan Danielson def. Mark Briscoe, Colt Cabana, Austin Aries, Homicide and Samoa Joe (42:27) to win the inaugural Survival of the Fittest.
    • Cabana first eliminated Joe (15:21) with a sunset flip.
    • Briscoe then eliminated Cabana (17:06) with a Shooting Star Press.
    • Homicide and Briscoe were eliminated simultaneously (19:02) after both men's shoulders were pinned when Briscoe hit Homicide with a German suplex and was unable to maintain a bridge.
    • Danielson last eliminated Aries by submission with the bearhug boston crab to win the match.

  • Jay Lethal def. Sal Rinauro (11:37)
    • Lethal pinned Rinauro following a dragon suplex.
  • Colt Cabana def. Ricky Reyes (4:27)
    • Cabana pinned Reyes following a lariat.
  • Roderick Strong def. Jerrelle Clark by submission (11:13)
    • Strong forced Clark to submit with the Stronghold.
  • Austin Aries def. Jimmy Rave by disqualification (12:53)
    • Rave used a chair on Aries, causing the DQ.
  • Samoa Joe def. Milano Collection AT (14:22)
    • Joe won by pinfall following a Muscle Buster.
  • Christopher Daniels def. James Gibson (26:01)
    • Daniels won by pinfall after the Last Rites
  • Nigel McGuinness def. B.J. Whitmer to retain the ROH Pure Championship (14:13)
    • McGuinness pinned Whitmer with a low blow behind the referee's back and a folding press in the ropes (Whitmer had used all three of his rope breaks).
  • Roderick Strong def. Samoa Joe, Colt Cabana, Jay Lethal, Christopher Daniels & Austin Aries (50:39) to win Survival of the Fittest 2005.
    • Strong first eliminated Joe (13:56) after Daniels hit him with the Best Moonsault Ever.
    • Aries then eliminated Daniels (19:10) with a rollup as Daniels attempted to hit Strong with Angel's Wings.
    • Strong eliminated Lethal (31:22) after Aries hit him with a brainbuster.
    • Strong eliminated Cabana (35:50) with a piledriver.
    • Strong last eliminated his tag team partner Aries with the Stronghold to win the match.

  • This event took place on October 6, 2006 in Cleveland, OH
  • Delirious def. Matt Sydal, Austin Aries, Jay Briscoe, and Mark Briscoe to become 2006 Ring of Honor Survival of the Fittest Champion 2006.
    • Austin Aries was eliminated by the Briscoes by a Doomsday Device at 11:19.
    • Matt Sydal eliminated Jay Briscoe with a roll up at 19:07.
    • Matt Sydal pinned Mark Briscoe with the Shooting Star Press at 23:08.
    • Delirious made Matt Sydal tap for the victory with the Cobra Stretch at 35:50.
