From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sureshot is the name to two different fictional characters in the Transformers universes.

[edit] Transformers: Generation 1 (1987)

Sureshot was part of the Autobot Targetmaster team. He transforms into a racing car and his Nebulan Targetmaster partner is called Spoilsport. Sureshot did make appearances in both the original cartoon and comic-book but did not feature in any main storylines - he was usually relegated to the background.

"Believing in yourself improves your aim better than target practice."

His confidance borders on arrogance -- can hit targets blindfolded, from memory. Resents his twin laser cannon, Spoilsport, since he needs no help from Sureshot to shoot, and never asks for any. Spoilsport likes to shoot and show off on his own. The two only cooperate when their lives depend on it. In vehicle Mode, Sureshot's maximum speed: 290mph, range: 1200 miles.

Comic Book Appearances

Headmasters #1: Ring of Hate

Sureshot was amongst those that were captured by the Decepticons and being led in manacles to the smelting pools. However because of Fortress Maximus' intervention they were saved and their Decepticon captors were driven away. While celebrating at their secret headquarters located in the Manganese Mountains, the Autobots were celebrating their victory. Tired of fighting, Fortress Maximus revealed his plans to travel to a planet named Nebulos with those other Autobots who were also tired of fighting. Sureshot was amongst those Autobots.

Sureshot was at the Autobots encampment when the Nebulans attacked the Autobots and was forced to retreat. Later, Sureshot was amongst those Autobots who approached the Nebulans to beg them to let the Autobots live in peace on their planet. However, because of the Nebulans distrust, Fortress Maximus ordered six Autobots (those later to become Targetmasters) to disarm and drop their weapons. This act, along with those Autobots who surrendered their heads; the Nebulan Galen agreed that the war would be halted.

Headmasters #2: Broken Glass

The six Autobots who were ordered to disarm were allowed to rejoin their comrades in a forest clearing near to the Nebulan city to build their new base and remained in the forest while the Autobot Headmasters were battling the Decepticons.

Headmasters #3: Love and Steel!

In the Autobot Headquarters on Nebulos, the Nebulan companions to the Headmasters were studying the weapons that were disarmed by the six Autobots earlier to find out how much power they possessed. Sureshot did not appear in this issue however the Targetmaster process was beginning to be developed. Sureshot would have been back at the Autobot base while the Headmasters were fighting the Decepticons.

Headmasters #4: Brothers in Armor!!

Spoilsport and five other Nebulans approached the Autobot base and offered to become the Autobots companions. Spoilsport is a code-name as by supporting Galen, the Nebulans were considered criminals by government. Later, at the Nursery, the new Autobot Targetmasters were charged with the duty of protecting the agricultural research center from Lord Zarak. While they were there the Decepticons launched a surprise attack; Sureshot complained that he hated going into battle without holding a gun. But then the Nebulans transformed into the Autobots weapons for the first time and showed the Decepticons how powerful they were now. But as the Nursery was being destroyed by the Decepticons while fighting the Autobots, the Autobots were forced to retreat to save what was left of the research center. To avoid further fighting on Nebulos, the Autobots left Nebulos to travel to Earth.

[edit] Transformers: Generation 2 (1994)

The name Sureshot was given to the European release of Hero Optimus Prime to differentiate from the other G2 Optimus Prime toys. The toy is identical to the American toy however the chest stickers have the words "Optimus Prime" removed. This toy did not get a bio and has never appeared in any fiction under the name Sureshot and is largely forgotten about, given the popularity of Optimus Prime.
