Supplementary minimal medium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Supplementary minimal medium (or supplementary minimal media) refers to the substance used by microbiologists and geneticists to grow bacteria. Supplementary minimal medium is similar in content to minimal medium, except that it also contains a single selected agent, usually an amino acid or a sugar. This supplementation allows for the culturing of specific lines of auxotrophic recombinants.

Other types of commonly used growth media include: minimal medium, complete medium, indicator medium, and selective medium.
