"Superstar" was the second single from UK R&B star Jamelia's second album Thank You. The song, released in the UK on 15 September 2003, was a sleeper hit, entering the UK top 10 at #8 but as airplay, videoplay and the general awareness of the track increased, after a month on the UK singles chart, the track climbed to a peak of #3. "Superstar" became the 26th biggest selling single of 2003, the first appearance for Jamelia in the official chart of the year. The single has been certified Silver in the UK by the BPI, spending 20 weeks on the official UK singles chart, over double that of her previous biggest hit, "Money".
"Superstar" also saw worldwide chart success including charting at #1 in Australia and New Zealand along with top 20 positions in over 10 other countries.
The track was originally released by Danish singer Christine Milton in Spring 2003.
Israel teen sensation Rony also had a big hit in her home country with "Superstar". Rony's version was actually released prior to Jamelia's in early summer 2003, a fact which caused high interest in Israel around Jamelia, who was not a very popular singer in Israel at the time. Rony's version to the song also gave her the famous nickname "Rony superstar". It's video was one of the most played in the new Israel music video channel (channel 24) which went on air at the same time.
