The Superhuman Restraint Unit is a fictional group in the Marvel Comics universe.

[edit] History

The Superhuman Restraint Unit, sometimes abbreviated into "SRU", was created by the American government and S.H.I.E.L.D. to hunt down rogue super-villains, mostly escapees from the Raft event from the New Avengers storyline.

Beginning their actual story during the Civil War after villain Nitro caused an explosion in Stamford, causing the deaths of hundreds of people including 60 children, the SRU was assigned to hunt Nitro down. Getting help from both Iron Man, who led the team, and the mutant Wolverine, the SRU managed to track Nitro down in his cabin. There, they immediately attacked the villain, but after he unleashed an explosion, the entire first line of SRU were murdered, including their leader Abrams.

In the aftermath of the Stamford Incident, SHIELD began training another Superhuman Restraint Unit to deal with rogue heroes. This unit is known as 'Gamma 1', and its members are colloquially known as 'Cape-Killers'.
