[edit] ”Dark Super Sonic”
In an episode of Sonic X, Sonic sees Cosmo and Chris held captive in a Metarex base. Sonic powers up and transforms in rage. The result is a being dubbed by fans as Dark Super Sonic. This entity looks like Super Sonic except it is completely black except for his clothes, and eyes. While his clothes are unaffected, his eyes have no pupils or irises — they're entirely white. He is also surrounded by a blue power aura, as opposed to Super Sonic's yellow.
It is presumed that this entity has all the powers of Super Sonic but none of the positive qualities. Dark Super Sonic's personality is similar to Fleetway's portrayal of Super Sonic. This can be backed up by the way Dark Super Sonic relishes the prospect of destroying the two prototype Metarex. The devilish grin, mad cackle, and exaggerated frown are the biggest giveaways. However, unlike Fleetway's portrayal of Super Sonic, this form can control himself and recognize who he should attack and not. It has been theorized by fans that this version of Sonic could appear in the games if Sonic turned evil or drew on the negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds. Dark Super Sonic also moves incredibly fast, but this form seems to only last a few seconds or until Sonic's anger/rage is requited. However, it is still more than enough to destroy the two Metarex prototypes, Silver and Gold.
The white eyes may be a reference to a Guyver which, like Dark Super Sonic, are creatures of pure rage and have no eye pupils, or another Dragon Ball Z reference, in which characters that were enraged would not have pupils either, like Broly.
[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog (comic)
While the games and Sonic X only use Super and Hyper Forms, the Sonic the Hedgehog Comic Series has the largest variety of transformations for various characters.
[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog
In the Sonic the Hedgehog comics published by Archie, Super Sonic is one of Sonic the Hedgehog’s super-powered forms. In this series, Super Sonic first appeared in issue #4, during the series' more comical era. There, he battled a roboticized and enlarged lizard calling itself the "Universalamander". At the end of the issue, he would still have a "super" sense of humor by putting a whoopee cushion on Antoine's chair. He does not reappear until the 48-page special "Super Sonic vs. Hyper Knuckles" (Hyper Knuckles was what the comics used to refer to Knuckles' seven-emerald form rather than the higher level), and then makes numerous appearances later on, including where he battled the emerald-empowered "Master Mogul", along with Hyper Knuckles and Turbo Tails, and the battle against Chaos in the Sonic Adventure adaptation. Afterwards, Super Sonic made a return appearance in issue #126, when Sonic discovered red-colored emeralds on an alien world, causing Super Sonic to be born as a crazed lunatic, separate from Sonic himself (similar to Fleetway's version of Super Sonic). This duplicate's existence ended when his powers faded. In issue #169, when A.D.A.M. successfully gathers all of the Chaos Emeralds in the universe, Sonic shows up to battle A.D.A.M. and uses the energy from the emeralds to transform into Super Sonic once more. Unfortunately, A.D.A.M. was also able to use the power of the emeralds to ascend to the level of Super, and fought Super Sonic to a standstill until Tommy temporarily regained control and allowed himself to be destroyed by Robotnik's Egg Fleet.
Sonic also has the ability to transform into "Ultra Sonic" when empowered by the vast energies of one of this setting's version of the Super Emeralds — it resembles Hyper Sonic in some ways, but Sonic's fur color does not change. He merely gains greater strength and speed, as well as elemental powers. In addition, in this form, Ultra Sonic can transform into various elemental forms based on his environment, such as Solar Sonic, Eco Sonic, and Polar Sonic.
Sonic also formed a version of "Ultra Sonic" just by obtaining a thousand rings. He was joined by Super Tails (also with 1,000 rings and a form very similar to the games' version) in a battle against Ixis Naugus.
[edit] Miles "Tails" Prower
In the Sonic the Hedgehog Comics, Miles “Tails” Prower has an assortment of transformations. His traditional improved mode is Turbo Tails, in which his appearance changes with the addition of a cape and a change of fur color (dark orange). Tails can also assume a form similar to Super Tails, with four Flickies flying around him, which he used in a battle with Ixis Naugus. Tails' final transformation occurred only once during a battle with Mammoth Mogul, his comic continuity nemesis. Joining together with countless other versions of himself, Tails assumed the giant, muscular form known as Titan Tails, a being fueled by cosmic energy. For a while, the fact that Tails had a super form became a thing of the past. In issue #168, Dr. Eggman's "son" A.D.A.M. had captured Tails so he could force him to transform into Turbo Tails. A.D.A.M. needed him, along with Super Shadow, to complete his master plan, for it was foretold that Turbo Tails was the "Chosen One" that would one day bring together every Chaos Emerald in the universe, causing great harmony, thus giving A.D.A.M. an unimaginable amount of power. (Ironically, the prediction was made by none other than Mammoth Mogul, who is well-known for being Tails' worst enemy.) When Sonic arrived to battle A.D.A.M., Super Shadow helped Turbo Tails to finish the job by placing all of the Chaos Emeralds into the Zone of Silence.
[edit] Knuckles the Echidna
In the Sonic the Hedgehog Comics, Knuckles can use 7 Chaos Emeralds to turn into Hyper Knuckles, and use the Master Emerald to turn into Super Knuckles. In Sonic the Hedgehog #141, the term "Hyper Knuckles" for his first transformation was scrapped in favor of "Super Knuckles", in order to correlate with the naming convention used by the games. As both, Knuckles’ red fur originally became pink, and has the same powers he has in the games. In issue#141, Super Knuckles’ appearance is somewhat a Knuckles version of Sonic’s powered up form from the pilot of Sonic X. He is now completely pink with red eyes, and black eye streaks.
Knuckles was also able to turn into a green-colored Chaos Knuckles. Chaos Knuckles was incredibly powerful, and possessed various types of Chaos powers. These included Chaos Blasts, teleportation, time and space traveling, healing ability, mind control, and reality manipulation. This was Knuckles' most powerful form, as well as the most powerful Chaos entity on Mobius. However, he lost this power when he came back from the dead, having died during a battle with Mammoth Mogul, who was later revealed to have stolen Knuckles' powers for himself. Unlike his other transformations, this form was permanent, and Knuckles would have remained in that state if not for his death. It appears that Knuckles could possibly return to this form, as such an event occurred in the history of the Mobius: 25 Years Later alternate future. Following his transformation back into Chaos Knuckles, the Guardian killed Dr. Eggman and attempted to recreate Mobius according to his desires. However, before he got very far along, Sonic stopped him by activating an alien device. The resulting explosion caused Knuckles to revert, and cost him his right eye.
For a brief time following his death, Knuckles was stripped of all Chaos abilities, thus preventing him from transforming into Chaos Knuckles. Knuckles recently regained these powers after using the Master Emerald to transform into Super Knuckles.
[edit] Mammoth Mogul
Mammoth Mogul is one of the few villains to possess his own Super form. Known as Master Mogul, he commands a wide range of abilities. Among these are increased reality warping powers, and destructive energy capable of destroying whole realities. He first gained this form after draining power from Enerjak, and later after draining the Chaos power of Knuckles the Echidna.
[edit] Scourge the Hedgehog
Like his Mobius Prime self, Scourge the Hedgehog is able to transform into a powered up form known as Super Scourge. Identical in appearance and abilities to Super Sonic, he needs 7 Chaos Emeralds to assume this state.
[edit] Sonic the Comic
In Sonic the Comic, published by Fleetway, Super Sonic was a psychotic, genocidal entity which manifested itself in Sonic's body when Sonic was under extreme stress or empowered by Chaos Energy. Unlike his video game counterpart, Sonic the Comic's Super Sonic would destroy things if he got angry, wanted to show off, or even when he was feeling bored. He once saved the planet from destruction for the sole purpose of being able to wreak havoc upon it himself and has been shown to take pleasure from potentially killing people individually.
Sonic first transformed into Super Sonic shortly after the events of the first Sonic the Hedgehog video game, having successfully regained all six of the Chaos Emeralds. But when brought together, the Chaos Emeralds become unstable, and radiate Chaos Energy, generating a spatial warp that sends them into the Special Zone. When they did so on this occasion, Sonic took the full force of the energy, and transformed into Super Sonic. Consequently, whenever he became stressed or extremely angry, Sonic would tap into this Chaos Energy soaked into his body, transforming into Super Sonic.
In STC #50 during a battle with the second Metallix on Sky Sanctuary Zone. Metallix used the power of the Master Emerald to increase his strength. Sonic used the Master Emerald‘s power to turn into Super Sonic and defeated Metallix with ease. Afterward he attacked Knuckles before returning to normal and realize what he was doing.
In STC #64, Sonic and the Freedom Fighters were captured by Commander Brutus, a special badnik trooper made out of indestructible metal. When faced with termination, Sonic lost his cool and transformed into Super Sonic, destroying Brutus' right arm.
As time went on and Super Sonic became stronger, he developed the ability to fire energy beams out of his eyes, and even shown in a dream sequence to have the power to move Mobius' moon out of orbit.
A turning point came when Sonic went to visit Porker Lewis on the Floating Island. While talking with Porker in the Emerald Chamber, he was startled by the Guardian robot and fell into a pit where the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald were suspended. He transformed him into Super Sonic once more, even more deranged and with a stronger lust for destruction. Using the Tornado as a decoy, the Freedom Fighters escaped and Super Sonic obliterated the surrounding area. Sonic then returned to normal and believed his friends to have been killed, and so went underground. The Freedom Fighters managed to track Super Sonic‘s energies, after he had transformed again during a bar brawl. To save Sonic from himself, his friends channelled the Chaos Energy out of him, through a Star Post into the Special Zone; but so great was the energy that Super Sonic was able to continue existing on his own.
Super Sonic allied himself with a crime kingpin called Lord Sidewinder, but turned on him the instant Sonic arrived, leading to a showdown . It ended when the Omni-Viewer absorbed Super Sonic and used his space/time manipulation powers to freeze time for themselves, immobilizing both of them. Eventually, however, it transpired that the Omni-Viewer had merely reduced time to a crawl and that Super would eventually emerge. Sonic and co. sealed the Omni-Viewer in and asteroid so that nobody could get to Super Sonic and that even if he escaped, he would be trapped.
However, Super Sonic managed to free himself from the Omni-Viewer a using his powers moved the asteroid towards Sonic‘s location in the Special Zone, all the while building his power. Once close enough it could be seen as a small sun. Sonic had the Omni-Viewer transported the asteroid to Mobius, where the asteroid exploded and an electromagnetic pulse swept over the planet, deactivating all of Doctor Robotnik's computer systems and robots. However, Super Sonic, had lost all his energy in this act and became amnesiac, being taken in by two old-age pensioners.
While the Freedom Fighters remained unable to find Super Sonic, the hedgehog himself applied for work at the Groovy Train, a coffee bar owned by the witch Ebony and her psychic friend Pajamas. In the process of fighting a villain, Super's memory returned but his new amiable personality remained; he immediately refused to ever use his powers again, for fear that if he did he would become a raging demon once more. He hid out with Ebony and Pajamas from then on, living a peaceful life.
In the final Sonic the Comic story, Super Sonic was finally dying as his Chaos Energy ran out. Ebony helped him reach the site of the confrontation between Sonic, Robotnik, and the monstrous Chaos, hoping to recharge him. Super Sonic hurled himself into Perfect Chaos, absorbing all the Chaos Energy from the creature and reverting it back into its Drakon state. Re-energized, Super Sonic was his demonic self again. To save Mobius from him, Sonic was forced to reintegrate with him.
[edit] Sonic the Comic Online!
In Sonic the Comic's Unofficial continuation, he has turned into Super Sonic twice[1]. So far he has been his evil self, and even managed to defeat Shadow the Hedgehog with ease.
