[edit] Origin
Super Commando Dhruva character was created by cartoonist and writer Anupam Sinha. Anupam Sinha wrote Dhruva's initial comics and made him a popular and distinct character. Anupam Sinha's interesting Dhruva series will involve suspense, science and Dhruva' agility and wisdom. Anupam Sinha's Dhruva was even appraised by matured readers.
The series starts with 'Pratishodh ki Jwala' (‘fire of revenge’), in which Dhruva's parents are killed by a villain named Jubisco. Dhruva vows to take revenge and uses his martial arts skills to kill Jubisco.
After the murder of his parents he was adopted by I.G. Rajan, an honest police officer. Very later in the story it was revealed that Dhurva has a family of Grandfather, Uncle, Aunt and a Cousin. His father Sham lost his memory thanks to Dhurva's Aunt. She along with her son tried to kill Dhruva but in the end she lands in the jail. Her aunt's son Looka had told Dhruva that his father was a murderer, accused of the murder of a police officer named, Lubek in France. Dhruva went to France and met Lubek 's daughter Vera. She helped him in his investigations which proved that his father was innocent. The real master-mind behind the murder was a criminal called Jigsaw, the maternal uncle of Looka. His original family is in Paris but after this story he never visited them and is staying with I.G. Rajan since then.
[edit] Attributes
‘Dhruva’ in Sanskrit means 'axis', which indicates one who remains in his position no matter what happens. The character has handsome looks and a muscular body, but does not have extraordinary superpowers like other comic heroes. He does, however, understand the language of animals and birds, a result of his upbringing in a circus, and they help him from time to time by reporting crimes happening in Raj Nagar, the fictional city where he lives with his parents.
[edit] Powers & Abilities
His only seemingly supernatural power is the ability to understand and talk to animals and birds (even sea creatures). Although this can, to some extent, be attributed to his childhood spent in Circus with all sorts of animals. Other than this, he is an excellent hand to hand combatant, with experience in all major martial arts. He is a perfect marksman too. He is also a first class detective and a brilliant strategist who is able to follow minute clues to locate and counter villains, much more powerful than him. He is observed frequently to face super human villains and is able to win over them by his sheer intelligence. Apart from this he also has the ability to breathe under water, thanks to his friend Dhananjay's gift
One great strength of Dhruv, as shown in each of his stories, is his ability to utilise objects around him as weapons to disarm or capture his enemies (He has vowed not to kill). In the multihero stories it is always Dhruv who plans a way to defeat the powerful villains by strategically using the powers of other heroes.
Every night Dhruv Patrols his city 'Rajnagar' in his special motorbike to prevent crime. Unlike many super heroes he does not use a disguise.
Dhruv is also the founder and head of "Commando Force" a three men team (Karim, Peter, Renu) which help him fight crime in 'Rajnagar'.
Lately, Shweta his sister, who is a good science student, has given Dhruv a patch-up. So Dhruv now has, apart from his 'Star Transmitter'(to contact his commando headquarters), Boots which become skates with a little movement of his toe. And above all 'Star Line' a metallic rope with which he can swing from wall to wall much like 'Batman'. This rope is contained in the metallic bracelets given by Shweta along with metallic star-shaped blades called 'Star-Blades'.
[edit] Family, Friends and Allies
Dhruva has been adopted by I.G. (Inspector General) Rajan and continues to live with his foster parents. His foster sister, Shweta, although appearing to be a normal girl, is in fact a heroine in her own right. She has saved Dhruva numerous times under the guise of 'Chandika' (name of a Hindu goddess). He believes that his sister is a very sweet and innocent girl with a weak heart and stomach and has no idea about her identity as chandika.Dhruva loves his sister very much and can go any ways to protect her. He has a long list of friends including Dhananjay, Samri, Vanputra, Baraf Manav, Black Cat, Kirigi, Lori and his love Commander Natasha.
He has his own syndicate called Commando Force which helps him to fight crime.
He has had many adventures with Nagraj. These pairings lead to events similar to the Batman-Superman pairings in the DC-Marvel Universe
He is the first superstar ever been produced by raj Comics.he is not only popular in children as well as in matured people too.
[edit] Contraversy
Many Dhruva fans feel that new comics are not up to the standard of his older comics by Anupam Sinha. They whole hearty point out that there is too much use of fairy tale in his recent comics written by Jolly Sinha, others argue that stories them selves are not as powerful and deep as they use to be. Some don't see the change and consider them as good as before. There seem to be two camps in this Contriversy, neither wrong on their decisions.
