The SuperStar Virgo was launched in 1999 and was the second new build for Star Cruises. She was constructed at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.

SuperStar Virgo is the second ship of this design. She was preceded by SuperStar Leo, which is now sailing for Norwegian Cruise Line as Norwegian Spirit. No other ships of this particular design were constructed.
