The SuperStar Gemini entered service in 1992 with Crown Cruise Line as the Crown Jewel. In 1994 she was sold to Star Cruises, entered drydock, and was relaunched with her new name the following year. She was constructed at Union Navale de Levante in Valencia, Spain.

SuperStar Gemini was the first of two ships with this design. She was followed by Crown Cruise Lines Crown Dynasty in 1993, which is now sailing for Fred Olsen Cruise Lines as Braemar (ship).
