[edit] History

The School was originally started as a non-denominational educational institute, by the founding headmaster John Burgess. The current headmaster is Mr Nigel Fairbairn.

Mr Nigel Fairbain took over from the PMSA's Dr Evans.

The PMSA possessed the school after controversy, surrounding a case of professional misconduct that was brought up from Mr John Burgess's past. He was since relieved of his position, relenquished financial possession of the school, and passed away late in 2006, due to heart complications.

On July 1st, 2006 the school officially opened it's Early Learing Centre for children 6 weeks old to school age.

[edit] Academia

Sunshine Coast Grammar School separates its student body into four parts: Senior, Middle, Junior, and Early Learning. They cover the traditional school years of Year 12 down to Year 10, Year 9 down to Year 7, Year 6 down to Year 1, and kindergarten to preschool, respectively.[1] In the Senior School, year 10 students face a difficult curriculum, to prepare them to meet the state-regulated "Senior Education and Training Plan," which leads students to set their direction, ie, choose a career area.

[edit] Schools of Excellence

The school offers "School's of Excellence" in Tennis, Mathematics and ICT.

[edit] International Studies

[edit] Languages

SCGS offers language courses in French and Japanese. Courses once existing in Mandarin Chinese, Italian and INdonesion were discontinues well before the school was in the possession of the PMSA.

[edit] Sister Schools

The school has sister schools in different countries around the world. These include China, Japan, Italy, France and Canada.

[edit] Rugby

[edit] First XV

The Sunshine Coast Grammar School First XV qualified for Division 2 of the 2005 Bellymore Cup after winning the Sunshine Coast Schoolboys Rugby Union 1st division. The team played their way through to the final and lost by 1 point to Forest Lake SHS.[2]

In 2006, the 1st XV played in the premier division of the Sunshine Coast competition. They finished the season in fifth place with five wins from nine games.

[edit] Open Cricket

The open cricket side attempted to put a good ending on a year to year to be remembered for Sunshine Coast cricket by winning the Australia Post Statewide knockout title in Brisbane. The Grammar team successfully defended their regional champion trophy. [3]

The final was played on Monday November 20, with the Grammar team successfully defeated Brisbane State High School.[4]
