Sunshine City, Ma On Shan

Sunshine City (Chinese: 新港城; pinyin: Xīn Gǎng Chéng) is a name that collectively refers to an area that contains a series of high-rise residential buildings and several shopping arcades developed by the Henderson Land Development Company Limited in the core of the town of Ma On Shan in the Sha Tin District of Hong Kong, China. It should be noted that, despite the name, Sunshine City is not a city.

The residential buildings of the Sunshine City was constructed in several phases during the 1990's. They include the Sunshine City (Phase 1), Sunshine City (Phase 2), Sunshine City (Phase 3), Sunshine City (Phase 4), Sunshine City (Phase 5). Phase 5 is also known as the Tolo Place (海濤居). Each phase was bulit together with a shopping arcade. The shopping arcades for phases 1 to 3 are relatively small. The shopping arcade built with phase 4 was particularly named as the Sunshine City Plaza (新港城中心), and the one built with phase 5 was as the Sunshine Bazzar (新港城廣場). Their theme colours are green and purple respecticely.

Nowadays, the Sunshine City Plaza, which is loacted in Sai Sha Road, has become the center of the Ma On Shan Town. The "Ma On Shan Town Centre" bus terminus locates under the Sunshine City Plaza. The Ma On Shan Station of the KCR Ma On Shan Rail, which was opened in 2004, is connected to the Sunshine City Plaza with a footbridge. The increase in the efficiency in transport has been an important factor for the increase in the number of visitors of the Sunshine City Plaza.
