Sunrise Mountain High School

Sunrise Mountain High School is a public high school located in Peoria, Arizona. SMHS is a relatively new school, built in the 1990s. It offers some up-to-date teaching methods and technology, and it is one of Peoria Unified School District's most prominent schools, offering Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. These include the Academy of Finance (AOF), Academy of Travel and Tourism (AOTT), and the Academy of Information Technology (AOIT). All of these are part of the National Academy Foundation (NAF) programs.
SMHS has notable business-oriented clubs, such as FBLA and DECA, various foreign language clubs and others. Both do well each year in competition after competition. SMHS also offers advance placement (AP) oriented classes as well as AIM classes. The student newspaper is the Mustang Express, which is part of the High School National Ad Network.
A student store is run on campus by student volunteers and those enrolled in Marketing courses. It offers a selection of food as well as basic supplies.
As of October 2005, Sunrise Mountain was labeled an excelling high school, which means, among other things, that Sunrise mountain is one of the top 9.4% of Arizona public schools.
SMHS' mascot is the Mustang (horse), not to be confused with the car.
