(or Raden Paku), Muhammad Ainul Yakin born 1442 A.D in Blambangan (nowadays Banyuwangi) Is considered to be one of the Wali Sanga of Java in Indonesia

He was the son of Dewi Sekardadu and Maulana Ishak of Melaka (brother of Maulana Malik Ibrahim), but later adopted as a son by Nyai Semboja. A traditional story says that he was the son of a Hindu princess of Balambangan and who had gone to Balambangan as a missionary. The princess was forced to abandon him in a crisis and set him adrift on the ocean in a small boat, from which he was rescued by sailors. He was later a student of Sunan Ampel, and married the daughter of Sunan Ampel.[1]

Sunan Giri went out to study in the school of his present father-in-law (Sunan Ampel) where at the same time Raden Patah was also the student there. He looked forward to migrate out into Melaka and Pasai and later established his own school in Desa Sidomukti, Southern Gresik. (actually Giri was the translation for hill) and from there he got his name.[2]. The establishment of islamic school not only fix to religious study but also a place for local activities and also as a center for social development.

It is said that when the king of Majapahit became anxious and worried about this matter lead to the fear of rebellion he granted Giri with the authority to expand his role in leadership which later on lead to the greater development of the school popularised as Giri Kedaton. Sunan Giri was also known as Prabu Satmata due to his remarkable record. Giri Kedaton lasted for 200 years and on of the prominent figure Pangeran Singosari was known to be the most notorious resistant leader against the VOC and Amangkurat II of the eighteenth century[3].

Children toys and games such as Jelungan, Jamuran, lir-ilir dan Cublak Suweng were among the creation of Sunan Giri. Also included Gending Asmaradana and Pucung -although it has been mostly influenced by Javanese belief yet the Islamic rules still being adopted[4].

Sunan Giri foretold the rise of Mataram, and spread Islam to Lombok, Sulawesi, and Maluku. He was a proponent of orthodox Islam, and disapproved of innovation (much like "modernist" Islamic scholars of the 1800s and 1900s).
