Sun hang do

Sun Hang Do is a modern martial art created by Grandmaster Jin W. Kang. Kang founded Sun Hang Do claiming to combine what he believes are the best techniques from all other martial arts he is aware of. It is also claimed to be a combination of hard and soft techniques. Students are taught movements in four different ranges. They are: punching (hand techniques), kicking (foot techniques), grabs and throws (leverage techniques) and weapons (body extension techniques). The ultimate goal of Sun Hang Do is to have the mind and body functioning in harmony.

The Sun Hang Do Black Belt Association is an in house organization that had a history of raising funds from the support of the school’s students. Some of these fund raising include, but not limited to the local children hospitals, and a Korean victim of a racial related beating.

Typical drills in Sun Hang Do consist much like those found in Korean martial arts, similarity is found most strongly in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido.

Sun Hang Do black belts are noticeable for their showmanship and demonstrations. Outstanding students are expected to promote this art through various local events. On November 5, 2005, Sun Hang Do brought the best of its members to the half time demo during the BC Lion vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders game (Canadian Football League).
