"Summer" is a song by Mogwai released as a double A-side with "Ithica 27ø9" on 4 November 1996 and eventually included on Ten Rapid. A version of "Summer" called "Summer (Priority Version)" is included on Mogwai's debut album, Young Team. The original version of "Summer" is still played live regularly.
[edit] Musical structure
"Summer" could be described as Mogwai's equivelant of a pop song. It begins with a quiet recording of the chorus of "Summer", with lots of reverb. It fades out and the bass riff of "Summer" kicks in. it is soon joined by the drums, the guitar, and the xylophone. The xylophone plays the melody for a while, then the guitars play a heavy riff along with pounding drums. There is then what could be described as a guitar solo, played by Stuart Braithwaite. The song eventually ends amidst Xylophone melodies and guitar feedback.
