The Suluk, also known as Tao Sug, originated from the island of Sulu in the Philippines. The Tao Sug people are the eleventh largest Filipino ethnic group. The term tao sug means 'people of the current', referring to their homelands in the Sulu Archipelago. Tau Sugs are called Suluk in Sabah, Malaysia.

The Taosugs presently populate the province of Sulu as a majority, and the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi as minorities. There are also Tausugs in the state of Sabah, Malaysia. The Taosugs currently number about 953,000, and speak the Tausug language. The vast majority of Taosugs are Muslims. At the height of its power, the Sulu Sultanate exercised sovereignty over the present day provinces of Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan, Basilan and the Malaysian state of Sabah (North Borneo) The Suluk scattered all over this islands and most of them are now natives of this islands.
