The Azlan Shah tournament is an annual field hockey tournament. It began in 1983 as a biennial contest. The tournament became an annual event after 1998, following its growth and popularity. (IANS)

The 15th Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament started in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sunday June 18, 2006. This year, the tournament is divided into two pools:


Pool A Standing:

India 6

Australia 4

South Korea 4

Malaysia 2


Pool B Standing:

New Zealand 5

Netherlands 4

Pakistan 4

Argentina 3


The top two teams after a round robin clash in each pool will clash in the semi finals of the tournament. 4 time Sultan Azlan Shah Cup holder, Australia is playing as the defending champion from last year when they defeated Pakistan 4-3 in the Finals. They also won the cup in 2004. Asian Champions India, winners of the Azlan Shah in 1991 and 1995, are looking to overcome a series of disappointments in the international arena over the last two years while Pakistan was only able to win this cup in 2000.
