[edit] Technical Description

The Su-28 is a downgraded variant of the Su-25UB/Su-25T, with reductions in avionics and aircraft systems, together with a full reduction of weapon-carrying capability.

The Su-28 trainer is intended for technical skill, general flight and formation flying training. It is also used as a demonstrator of advanced aero-maneuvers.

[edit] The Su-28 is characterised by

  • High maneuvering degree
  • Take-off and landing with only one of two engines running
  • Being able to run on diesel-based fuels
  • Operations from unpaved runways
  • The ability to perform 18-20 take-offs and landings in one sortie
  • The ability to withstand heavy landings by the landing gear
  • High reliability and minimum operating maintenance
  • On ferry flights, the Su-28 can be equipped with up to 4 jettison fuel tanks, each capable of storing 800 litres of fuel (4xPTB-800).

[edit] The Su-28 differs from the base Su-25UB model by the absence of

  • Targeting systems
  • Weapon-operating systems
  • Internal guns
  • Wing pylons
  • Armoured engine covers
  • Advanced fly-by-wire controls
  • Electronic counter-measures, ECM
  • All systems dedicated to air-to-ground operations
