Suisei (mythology)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suisei (水星) is the name for the planet Mercury in Japanese (kanji). The name originates with the kanji, from the original Chinese, which use the same characters. The name (in Chinese characters) is also used in other East Asian communities.

水星 literally means water star, the five planets each representing an element in the Chinese system of geomancy.

[edit] Fun facts

  • In Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury has power over water and the cold, this derives from the element associated with the planet in Chinese geomancy, 水 water, which is also associated with cold.
