Suihasu ryu no Bugei (水蓮流) is a koryu style of martial arts that was founded in the late Muromachi (1562) era, by Shindou Hiroshi in the region of Kaeda.

[edit] History

Hiroshi went to China and stayed there for five years when he was young. When he returned to Japan he traveled for more ten years studying the way of samurai. Finally, returning to his homeland in Hyuga, he founded Suihasu ryu and started to teach this style in a dojo built in Kaeda near Miyazaki. During his travels, he met Honda Tadakatsu and fought under him in the Battle of Anegawa (1570) and in the Battle of Mikatagahara (1572). He claims that he learned his style from nature and from the gods. It is a very spiritual style, based on Zen, Tao and Shinto. At the end of his life, Hiroshi wrote a book called nanashin ichiten (七心一天) about the essence of Suihasu ryu.
