Susan Kathleen Doughty, known as Sue Doughty, (born 13 April 1948) is a politician in the United Kingdom. She was Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Guildford (2001-2005).
Doughty entered Parliament in the 2001 election, becoming the first non-Conservative MP returned for Guildford since 1906 as well as its first female MP, and left in the 2005 general election, when she lost to the Conservative candidate Anne Milton. Doughty is a Quaker and upon her departure in 2005, left the Parliament without any Quaker MPs for the first time in 150 years.
Doughty currently lives in Shalford at the heart of the Guildford constituency. She was born and brought up in York, training as a teacher in Northumberland, subsequently entering the field of management services. She has worked in a variety of organisations spanning sectors such as utilities, the 'Big 4', law practices and financial services providers.
Doughty joined the Liberal Democrats while living near Newbury in 1979, during a period when the local party were running a successful campaign to prevent the then Conservative council from creating towering rubbish dumps close to housing. Sue considers waste management to be a key interest and as such, strongly opposes large scale incineration for Guildford.
Doughty's particular concerns are fair treatment for the elderly, creating an education which provides the best opportunities for all, and environmental matters, particularly transport.
On 27 May 2006, Doughty was re-selected as prospective parliamentary candidate for Guildford.
