[edit] History
The SMU220s were introduced into service in 1999 to cater for service increases on recently upgraded lines such as the Caboolture Line triplication from Northgate to Lawnton and notably had replaced the last remaining loco-hauled suburban services in Brisbane.
[edit] Operation
The trains are numbered SMU221-SMU250 for the 220 Series. All having driving cabs at both ends. In addition, Several Mk II units have been modified for higher-speed use, those units are SMU221-SMU223, SMU242 and SMU247-SMU250. They are all interoperable with 200 Series Suburban Multiple Units.
[edit] Timetable
The trains serves all suburban lines in the network. However, both the HS modified and non-HS units are regularly found operating interurban services on the Gold Coast Line and the Nambour and Gympie North Line due to a shortage of interurban rollingstock.
