A subprofile is any number of HTML or Java profile add-ons for AOL Instant Messenger. Users may create and edit their subprofiles from a website and place the link in their regular profiles. The subprofile is viewed by clicking the link in their regular profile which opens the subprofile page in the profile window. Subprofiles are viewed much like websites with internal links as well as links that open external sites. A unique feature of subprofile is that it allows for much more space than the default 1024 character limit AIM profile that some users find to be too small.

[edit] Criticism

Many subprofile websites have many pop-up ads[citation needed]. Bots that advertise pornographic websites visit random subprofile pages in an attempt to mark their names in the visitor logs[citation needed]. Subprofiles generally do not support code modification which limits users to what is provided[citation needed]. Macintosh users, AIM Express, and third party AIM programs may experience problems visiting subprofiles.

SubProfile.com, in addition to suffering from the critisms above, sends users spam[citation needed] and sells their personal information[citation needed].
