Subiaco Marist Cricket Club

Subiaco Marist Cricket Club (SMCC) is a renowned cricket club based in Churchlands, Western Australia. The club is a member of the Western Australian Suburban Turf Cricket Association (WASTCA).

The club was borne from an amalgamation of Marist Newman Old Boys (MNOB) and Subiaco Womens Cricket Club in the year 2000. Women's and Men's teams have lived up to the club's motto of Spirit, Mateship, Character, Commitment by winning numerous premierships (seven) since the year of amalgamation [1]. Prior to this year, Subiaco Womens Cricket Club had been crowned state champions on 24 occasions. Eight women from SWCC/SMCC have represented Australia [2],[3][4][5],[6][7][8],[9],[10]. MNOB had laid claim to 11 premierships during their shorter history [11]. Three SMCC players have represented England at test level [12][13][14][15]
The fifth grade teams have in particular produced a number of memorable performances over the years, both on the field (with bat and ball) and off (with the famous 5th Grade Hose of Death aka Hose of Jeff). The unofficial club anthem was composed by two fifth grade players after its historic premiership victory in the season 2002/03.
The club's greatness was recognised when it was chosen to feature in the Electronic Arts computer game "Cricket 2004".
[edit] Colours and Insignia
The colours of the club represent the harmony of man and woman, with a tasteful combination of dark and pale blue (inherited from MNOB) and claret (from Subiaco). The symbol of SMCC is a stylised shield, representing the united and resilient spirit of all Subiaco Marist "warriors".

The club is officially referred to as Subiaco Marist United, but has been variously referred to by other nicknames, such as "Marist Brothers" and "Subi Markets".

Subiaco Marist prides itself on its reputation for fair play. However, sportsmanship does not always preclude gamesmanship and as such, a small number of healthy sporting rivalries have developed with other members of the WASTCA. Such clubs include Applecross CC, High Wycombe CC and most recently Western Suburbs CC. However, the title of "Arch-Rival" belongs to the northern suburban powerhouse club Whitfords CC.
