Subdivisions of the Soviet Union

The Soviet Union had several kinds of subnational entities:
- Republics of the Soviet Union
- Autonomous republics of the Soviet Union
- Oblasts of the Soviet Union
- Autonomous oblasts of the Soviet Union
In addition, some cities and regions, while located within subnational entities had special status:
- "Closed cities"
- Oblast centers
