Subdivisions of Martinique
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Martinique is broken down into four arrondissements:
Fort-de-France (originally called "Fort Royal", but the name was changed for patriotic reasons after the French Revolution), Le Marin, Saint-Pierre, and La Trinité.
These are further subdivided into 34 communes.
Martinique is also divided into 45 cantons. In metropolitan France, the canton is normally a grouping of communes. In Martinique, however, there are four cantons consisting of two communes each; six communes which are divided into two or more communes each; and each of the remaining twenty communes coincides with a canton.
