Studio Four is a student-run comedy society at the University of New South Wales. The society shares its name with a room in the Food Sciences Building (UNSW Grid Reference C8a), which is scheduled for demolition.
The Society formed in 2004 after the success of the show [Insert Comedy], and has since run several successful comedy shows, as well as starting the UNSW Theatresports Competition.
Studio Four's widespread appeal for most of its two hundred plus members arguably arises from its reputable efforts in improvised comedy, yet there is more to the group than their weekly improvisational workshops. The Studio seeks to achieve high comedic standards in all fields, and thus run occaisional workshops for stand-up and sketch comedy, have run seminars about comedy theory and industry, and explore all avenues of humorous entertainment.
Studio Four has entered teams in Theatresports competitions including Intervarsity Theatresports and the Cranston Cup. A Studio Four production, Insert Comedy 2 was performed as part of the 2005 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Studio Four has strong relationships with the broader theatrical community at the university, including New South Wales University Theatrical Society and the UNSW Revues.
