Student gumball rally
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Student Gumball Rally is inspired by the 1976 film The Gumball Rally and is an international car rally that took place over 6 days in September 2006 involving 500 students from across Europe.
Not the Gumball 3000
The Student Teabag Rally (Formerly the Student Gumball Rally) is in no way affiliated with the Gumball 3000 and was setup for the benefit of students, with each team requiring a minimum of two persons either currently students or graduated within the last 4 years. Only cars deemed to be in keeping with the 'student' element of the rally were permitted to enter. There was also a engine capacity limit of 2 liters although some exceptions were allowed in the cases of classic cars such as a Lincoln. The rally was also used to raise both awareness and funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust, a UK charity.
2006 Route
The rally started from Dover town hall and a ferry crossing to Calais. The first stop was in Cologne followed by Prague the next day. The route then took in Budapest, Zagreb and finished in Zadar on the Adriatic cost.
