String Quintet No. 2 (Dvořák)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Antonín Dvořák's String Quintet No. 2 in G major, Opus 77 was originally composed in 1875 for two violins, viola, cello, and double bass. It is sometimes referred to as the Double Bass Quintet. First written as Op. 18, it was later slightly revised in 1888. Because it was first written at an earlier date, it lacks some folk elements found in most of Dvořák's later works.
The original work was scored in five movements, but the original second movement entitled "Intermezzo" was removed and republished as Noctourne for Strings, Op.40. This movement is often restored in modern performances.
