Strinda

Strinda is a former municipality in Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway.

It was created in 1837 as Strinda formannskapsdistrikt. According to the 1835 census the municipality had a population of 4,593. In 1891 the parish Malvik was separated from Strinda to constitute a separate municipality, leaving Strinda with a population of 2,769.

Starting in 1864, a series of border adjustments which moved territory from Strinda to Trondheim took place. The parts moved to Trondheim in 1864, 1891 and 1952 had 1,229, 4,097 and 2,230 inhabitants respectively. On 1 January 1964 the rest of Strinda was incorporated into Trondheim, along with Leinstrand, Byneset and Tiller. Prior to the merger Strinda had a population of 44,600.
