Strayer Voigt Inc
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Strayer-Voigt, Inc. (also known as SVI) is a manufacturer of M1911-styled modular pistols (so-called because the lower grip and trigger guard, which is made of a fiber reinforced plastic, is a separate component from the metal upper portion of the frame that is comprised of the dust cover and frame rails) based on a shared patent with STI International Inc. They are the most famous for their Hybrid series of pistols. SVI markets its products under the brand name Infinity Firearms (Sometimes unofficially known by the combined name of Strayer-Voigt Infinity among some enthusiasts, a play on the SVI acronym).

[edit] History
Strayer-Voigt, Inc. was started in June 1994 when Sandy Strayer left STI to form his own company. Sandy Strayer joined forces with Michael Voigt, a well regarded gunsmith and professional shooter, to manufacture and market their own line of modular frame 1911s. Michael Voigt left Strayer-Voigt, Inc. around 2000 and, ironically, is now sponsored by STI International, Inc., a competitor of Strayer-Voigt, Inc.
[edit] The new age of 1911's
The new frame is a shared patent design between Infinity and STI, Inc. The new style frame offers a modular design for 1911 lovers around the United States who need a great competition pistol.
[edit] F.A.Q.
Q. What is the difference between a STI and a SV gun?
A. It is much easier to answer the question, "Comparing the STI gun to the SV gun, is anything the same?" The answer here is, "Certainly. The frames are built by each company under a shared patent." Past that, it would be the same as trying to compare a 1911 Colt to a 1911 Springfield to a 1911 Kimber to a 1911 Norinco, or any other 1911 clone. Different manufacturing facilities, different people, different processes, different checks and quality standards.

[edit] In Popular Culture
An SVI 1911 is notably featured in Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, as the movie's antagonist, Vincent Volaju, uses an SVI variant of the 1911 as his weapon of choice. This particular model features a slab-sided 6" barrel and a hi-capacity, double-stack magazine.
The 2006 Miami Vice movie featured an Infinity compact single stack "Tiki" all titanium pistol as well as a full size double column 45 equipped with a compensator. Recent reports indicate that the comped 45 recently appeared in the current TV show "heroes".
