Strange Famous Records

Strange Famous Records is an underground hip-hop music label based in Providence, Rhode Island, started by Sage Francis.

Planned releases include a collaboration album between Reanimator and Prolyphic, and an album by spoken word artist Bernard Dolan.

Strange Famous Records was birthed in 1996. It entailed a lot of tape dubbing and photo copying. SFR then expanded into CDR burning in 1999, when Sage Francis was granted access to the 90.3 WRIU computer station. This is when it took 7 1/2 minutes to burn a single CDR, and one out of 10 CDRs would crash the system. A couple thousand CDRs and a couple thousand tapes were made during this time period.

These items were sold from hand to hand until enough money was saved for proper CDs to be pressed at a manufacturing plant. Time and money was saved in this process, which allowed the business to grow, and SFR has been an independent powerhouse ever since.

The online store was soon developed and a mail order business was set into effect. This was a "cash only" snail mail service that thrived because of SFR's exclusive catalogue and people's trust in the company. They were rewarded and thanked by the extra goodies that were placed in the packages (usually show-related items found around the Strange Famous household). The catalogue expanded into shirts, sweatshirts vinyl, stickers, buttons and eventually other people's projects, the first being Joe Beats' Reverse Discourse instrumental album.

In late 2005, SFR enlisted the help of Tom Inhaler, Jared Paul, and Irena Andreic to create strangefamousrecords.com, an online webstore which accepts paypal, credit cards, money orders and cash. We are domestic and International order-friendly.

In 2006, SFR has been adding a lot to its roster; not only Sage Francis items (such as the Life is Easy DVD and Road Tested CD), but items from people who work closely with SFR: Reanimator, Prolyphic, Grand Buffet, Sole, Sol.illaquists of Sound, etc...

A Prolyphic and Reanimator album called "The Ugly Truth" is in the process of being made, which is to be released on SFR in late 2006 or early 2007. Sage Francis is the executive producer and is slated to appear on a couple tracks.
