Strandhill is a seaside resort and is Atlantic facing. It is known as one of Ireland's premiere surfing resorts. Strandhill's amenities include a golf course, caravan park, pubs (The Strand Bar, The Countess, Kelly's, etc.), restaurants and a celtic seaweed bath house. It is popular with residents of Sligo as it is just 7km from the Town. Strandhill is situated at the western base of Knocknarea on the 'Cúil Irra' peninsula. It has a world class beach break. It is also very close to Sligo Airport. But Strandhill and all its beauties far surpasses the scenic beauty of rosses point

Recently Strandhill has been the center of many new housing developments, especially along the R292 (the 'top road' locally) where 5 new housing developments have taken place since the new millennium.

The centre of activity in Strandhill, usually occurs in kellys pub, know as the pub of the people. Many world renouned bands have played there including Irelands own Aslan. Many people who have stopped in kellys for a drink, comeback year after year to enjoy its wonderful athmosphere and its old irish fire.
