Straits Estate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Straits Estate is a housing estate located in Sedgley, West Midlands, England. It is located to the north-west of Lower Gornal village, and was built for homeowners during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The modern housing development was constructed around a large 18th century residence called Straits House. It had once been occupied by a succession of affluent local people, but by the time the surrounding estate was completed, it had been converted into a public house. There were recent plans for the building to be demolished and the site redeveloped for housing, but a local campaign saw these plans scrapped.
