Typhoon Freda (Also known as the Columbus Day Storm of 1962 in the Western United States and Canada) was a category 3 typhoon that formed during the 1962 Pacific typhoon season. Freda formed on October 4 in the central Western Pacific Ocean and moved eastward and then northeastward where it reached a peak intensity of 115 mph before becoming extratropical on October 10. The extratropical remnants of Freda then battered the Western Canada and the Northwestern United States.

Freda caused no damage as a tropical cyclone but its extratropical remnants caused major damage and power outages from British Columbia to Oregon and fourty six fatalites.

Freda formed on October 3 as a 40 mph tropical storm and moved east-northeastward where it reached typhoon status a day later. The typhoon then curved back to the west and reached category 3 status. Freda reached a peak intensity of 115 mph and a low barometric pressure of 950 millibars.[2][3]
