The January 1-3, 2006 Tornado Outbreak was an early season tornado outbreak across Missouri, Ohio Valley and southeastern United States. The outbreak beagan when the Storm Prediction Center forecasted a modrate to high risk of thunderstorms. Later two strong supercellthuderstorms formed which spawned numerous tornadoes across Kentucky and Georgia causing sigifigant damage and four injuries but no deaths. The January outbreak produced 23 tornadoes.

A total of 23 confirmed tornadoes touched down in Missiouri, Kentucky and Georgia. Of the tornaodes six were classifed as F1 and three were classifed as F2. There were no reports of F3-F5 tornadoes in this outbreak.

The first tornado, touched down near Marion,Mississippi on January 1. The tornado damaged a house and snapped several trees. According to eyewitness reports, the tornado left a damage path of 1/2 mile long and 50 feet wide. [1]
