[edit] Storm history

The southern portion of the tropical wave which later became Hurricane Philippe crossed Central America and entered the eastern Pacific Ocean on September 22. Convection within the wave increased as the system entered an enviroment of less wind shear. On September 28, tropical wave became Tropical Depression Fifteen-E as it drifted west-southwestward. The depression then turned northwest where it became better organized despite a decrease in convection. [1][2]

On September 29, a large burst of convection began to form southeast of the center of circulation. Satallite photographs showed a large band of clouds wrapping around the mid level circulation. [3]
