The 1945 Texas Hurricane was a powerful category 4 that lashed southern Texas between August 24 and August 29, 1945. The hurricane was the worst hurricane to strike Texas since the 1900 Galveston Hurricane.

The Texas Hurricane formed on August 24 in the Bay of Campechie as a 70 mph tropical storm. The developing storm, moved northward where it reached hurricane strength at 1800 UTC. [1] The strengthing hurricane continued moving northward parallel to the Mexican coast where it strengthened into a category 3 hurricane on the 25th. [1] On August 26, the Texas Hurricane made landfall near Port Anrasas as a category 4 hurricane. [2] The storm then moved inland past Matagorda before weaking into a category 1 and then a tropical storm. The storm then dissipated well inland on August 29. [1] The barometric pressure of the 1945 Texas hurricane before landfall is unknown, numerous weather stations along the Texas coast recorded a 963 barometric pressure when the storm made landfall. About 30 inches of rain fell along the Texas coast causing considerable flashflooding. [2] Three people died in the storm, two when their small boat crashed into a jetty another from a tornado. [2] There was heavy damage to oil facilities, roads and bridges and there was severe crop and livestock loss.[2] The damage from the storm totaled $20.1 million (1945 USD).
