Talk:Stoner (cannabis)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I don't think it's appropriate for the Phish logo to represent stoners. Perhaps a photo of some stoners smoking pot, or else simply a photo of some marijuana plants would make more sense.
- I agree. I think Phish fans are by far a smaller subset of the greater stoner lifestyle. --Howrealisreal 16:46, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)
This article isn't written with a neutral point of view. "many stoners do not let their marijuana usage interfere with the rest of their lives" seems to show bias.
>> I disagree. It addresses the fact that stoner culture is built around cannabis, so it has provided the other side of the story. It wouldn't be neutral to leave it with the implication that stoners are immersed in cannabis without living outside the weed. - Mushroom Pi, April 7, 2006 10:43 PM (PDT)
It is quite neutral. Many modern marijuana users belong to intellectual circles and are not heavy users. The article also points out the way the word "stoner" can be used in a derogatory manner. Both statements balance the argument.
I believe the phrase "many stoners do not let their marijuana usage interfere with the rest of their lives" is intended to reflect differences in definition rather than any bias. As I was taught, a stoner is someone who smokes pot (responsably) whereas a pothead is someone who's marijunana usage is out of control.
You can be in control while smoking a certain amount of marijuana, as ong as you don't absolutely need to have some on you or can't go a day without smoking. Some people drink but not all drinkers are alcoholics.
What do you mean by out of control. Either one has an out of control lifestyle or one doesn't, certainly the quantity of marijuana used dpesn't have any bearing on that, SqueakBox 23:04, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- Honestly, unless you can show statistical proof that the majority of stoners don't let marajuana interfere with their life, it's not supposed to be in the article. I'm a stoner myslef, and I agree with the statement, but it's not verafiable to say that.

- Okay, look, it's true that not EVERY stoner lives only for pot, but most casual pot users aren't considered stoners, It's usually the people who are heavier users that you'd consider stoners.
[edit] Merger proposal
It seems to me that this should be a subsection of Cannabis culture, since the two articles essentially address the same topic, and since "Cannabis culture" is a far more applicable term to the subject than "stoner" is. What's the vote? G Rose 15:51, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
