From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stormvogels Telstar is a Dutch football club based in IJmuiden.
The club is the result of the merger in 2001 of the amateur club Stormvogels and the professional club Telstar.
Stormvogels was founded in 1912. When professional football was introduced in the Netherlands, both Stormvogels and neighbouring club VSV played in the professional leagues. Because of financial problems of both clubs, their professional teams were merged on July 17, 1963. The new club was named Telstar, for the communication satellite launched that year. Stormvogels and VSV returned to the amateur divisions. Coincidentally, Telstar is also the name of the Adidas match ball used in the 1970 & 1974 FIFA World Cups.
Its home stadium is the 3,250 seater Schoonenberg Stadion and its home colors are white.
VSV won the KNVB Cup in 1938.
