The store manager may also be required to meet monthly, quarterly, or annual sales goals. This may be achieved by setting goals, holding contests for employees, or offering sales promotions. He or she may also receive a monetary incentive (or "bonus") tied to the financial performance of the store over a specific time period.

The store manager has the final say in matters of customer service. He or she receives unsolicited feedback from customers, and may be asked to intervene in confrontations between customers and employees. The store manager may also make exceptions to store policies, but in most cases is required to enforce policies set by the company that owns the store.

The store manager is the primary keyholder of the store and may be called to the store before, during, or after business hours in the event of an emergency. He or she is also responsible for the safety of all customers and employees on store premises. To include training of hazardous materials,and in shop saftey.

It is incumbent upon the store manager to set the overall tone (or morale) in the store by acting with integrity and treating customers and employees respectfully.

A shop manager may have several subordinates within the hierarchy of the store to whom he or she can delegate management-level responsibility. These employees are sometimes called assistant managers, duty managers, supervisors, shift supervisors, keyholders, department managers, team leaders, shift leads or leads.

The shop manager is responsible for the quality of staff in the store, he should train them to a level where the staff can handle the customer very easily.he should see that the staff should be always cheerful and eager to help the consumer.He should also make sure that the staff is well equipt with all the information of the product they are selling.

The store manager should do visual merchandise according to the layout of the store.He should visualize whats the best for his store, visual merchandising has an important part in selling of a product.He should categories the store into three regions Primary,Secondary and tertiary. Primary he should put all his new arrivals and best offerings in this region. Secondary he should put stuffs like the basic stuff or to say the core products. tertiary is mainly considered the dead zone of the store so you could also put some products like the accessories in this region,but then he should be innovative enough to create a walkin in that region.Also more importantly if the main display is attractive then it automatically brings footfalls to the store.
