Stony Brook Independent

The Stony Brook Independent is an upstart online news publication serving the students of the State University of New York at Stony Brook in Stony Brook, New York. Established in 2005 by Stony Brook undergraduate students Michael Nevradakis, Jeff Licitra and John Mascher, the publication was originally sponsored by the campus chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), but since Fall 2005, has existed as a separately recognized student media organization at Stony Brook University. The publication maintains close ties with SPJ and is an affiliate member of Google News.
In Fall 2005, the Independent also made its first foray into print, publishing two print "extras" covering major campus events, and relaunched its website. The Independent is located at http://www.sbindependent.org.
