From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
StoneBridge School is a non affiliated christian day school for students from kindergarten through the 12th grade in Chesapeake, Virginia. There are two campuses, one at 4810 Portsmouth Boulevard which holds students in the primary school (K-4), and the other is at 1629-A Jolliff Road which houses the middle school (5-8) and high school (9-12).
[edit] History
StoneBridge was founded in 1980 by Dr. Carole Adams, who initially started the school as a one year tutoring program with students from grades 1-10, which centered around Christian ideals. Many of Adams' students and their parents were very pleased with their learning environment, so a permanent location was established in 1983 on Portsmouth Boulevard. In 1990, a high school was established and moved to Jolliff Road in [991.
[edit] Education
StoneBridge incorporates a rigorous curriculum for their students in all subjects. Unique aspects of StoneBridge include mandatory classes in Latin and Computer Science. Bible classes, and worship are regularly incorporated into the school day.
StoneBridge High School seniors are also required to write a 20-25 page research thesis, which they must defend in front of a faculty committee before graduation. The average SAT score for SBHS is over a 1200 (Math and Verbal). They have had 15 National Merit Scholars since the high school opened.
