Stokmarknes Airport, Skagen (IATA: SKN, ICAO: ENSK) (Norwegian: Stokmarknes lufthavn, Skagen) is an airport in Hadsel municipality in Norway, 3 nautical miles (5.6 km) east northeast of Stokmarknes. The airport opened in the early 1970's as part of a government program of building a series of small airports along the coast. This was a major success and an important step for the population in the area (an arctic island archipelago), who now could travel to the bigger cities of Norway and the rest of the world in one day, not weeks.
There is work in progress for extending the airport runway for completion in the fall of 2006, to allow larger aircraft. At the moment only the Canadian built De Havilland Canada Dash 8 STOL (short take-off and landing) aircraft can land at the airport. Other flights such as the Norwegian Coast Guards Dornier Do 228 and ambulance flights (MEDEVAC) using Beechcraft King Air operate at the airport. Currently owned and operated by Avinor, the airport was managed by the Hadsel municipality for the first 20 years.
The airport is served by Widerøe, part of the SAS Group, on public service obligation contracts with the Norwegian Government.
