Stokes flow

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stokes flow is a type of flow where inertial forces are small as compared to viscous forces. The Reynolds number is low, usually Re<1. This is a typical situation in MEMS devices.

For this type of flow, the Navier-Stokes equations simplify as:

0 = \nabla \mathbb{P} + \nu \nabla^2 \mathbf{u} + \rho\mathbf{f}

Stokes flow is very common in the processing of polymers and other materials.
