Stockwell Hall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stockwell Hall, completed in 1940 at a cost of $1 million, is an all-female residence hall at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It houses 418 predominantly first- and second-year students. It was named after Madelon Louisa Stockwell of Kalamazoo, Michigan, the first woman admitted to the University in 1870.
Men were in residence for a single summer session in the early 1990s. Other than that, it is the only residence hall in the "Hill" area that has maintained its all-female status.
Stockwell recently lost to Alice Lloyd Hall during the Resstaff challenge held every summer. Stockwell also bowed down as queen of the hill and relinquished its title to Alice Lloyd, particularly the Alice Lloyd Alliance, a group dedicated to the preservation of the dominance of Alice Lloyd and fighting for Lloyd residents.
