Stick Fig is Ernie Smith, a newspaper designer at Link, a product launched by The Virginian-Pilot, a Norfolk, Va.-based newspaper, in October 2006. He comes to Norfolk from Bluffton Today, an experimental daily tabloid located in Bluffton, SC. His interests include graphic design, pop music (he was a finalist for VH1's World Series of Pop Culture television show), internet culture and journalism.

Smith is using Wikipedia as a way to improve his research and editing skills. (It's always good to prime the pump.) If you know of any pop-culture-related articles that could use some TLC, mention them on his talk page.

Smith, a 2004 graduate of Michigan State University's journalism program, is an active member of Visual Editors and The Society for Newspaper Design.

[edit] Articles with which he has an active interest

  • Whiskeytown - Because Whiskeytown's a seminal alt-country band and deserves a better article than it has.
  • Fred Durst - I know. I know. I was mainly picking up scrub duty because the article needed lots of help.
  • eMusic - It's a great service and deserves an informative article.
  • Michigan State University - What a great article. I found it somewhat late in its lifecycle, but I want to support my alma mater.
