[edit] Mazher Mahmood
I tried raising the problems with vandalism on this article here: [1]. But I have been ignored by the admins. Perhaps you would like to add your comments.--الأهواز | Hamid | Ahwaz 19:58, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
- Done.
[edit] Colours
Hi, I have not intentionally changed any colours. Can you give me an example? Rich Farmbrough, 11:20 17 September 2006 (GMT).
- HI this is due to changes in the colours generated by template:Infobox Album. Rich Farmbrough, 13:09 18 September 2006 (GMT).
- Hello, the Infobox Album has changed recently, it takes the album type and generates the colour from that, so that the "background" parameter is now useless (and will be removed in time). The colour scheme has also changed, more details at template:Infobox Album and template talk:Infobox Album. Rich Farmbrough, 09:08 19 September 2006 (GMT).
- The colour scheme hadn't changed last time I looked! Ah well, I guess I'll have to allow others (or bots) to change everything as I simply don't have the time to create articles that need to be constantly updated due to colour and formatting fickleness \ updates. I thought they were fairly "solid" and informative articles too... Stephenjh
[edit] "Hat notes"
I notice you have removed a lot of Hat notes or top links (qv). Is there a specific reason? Rich Farmbrough, 15:45 17 September 2006 (GMT).
- I'm not sure I removed a "lot", but the wikipedia search page shows the differences anyway (between Nick Harpers (for example)). Top hat links to pages that don't have top hat links back seem superfluous, particularly when linking to non notable college students.Stephenjh
[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:243 Roy.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:243 Roy.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).
The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: TemplateName
. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.
Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Gay Cdn (talk) (email) (Contr.) 19:11, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I believe I sourced the link to the site where the image was obtained. That site may have been updated since. FWIW, the image was freely available on promotional leaflets distributed to support a tour by the artist. I shall see if I can obtain "direct rights" or an alternative image from the artist himself. Stephenjh
- The artist who took the photograph has given permission to use the image if her name and website is quoted / sourced. I trust that the changes I have made to refelect this are acceptable. Stephenjh
[edit] Re: Roy Harper singles
Thanks for your message. I'm afraid I don't know anything abouit Roy Harper so I'm probably not the best person to help with this project. P Ingerson (talk) 08:30, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- I don't even have the ability to delete. (Probably a good thing -- I'm a bit of a deletionist, and think there are already far too many articles in Wikipedia. I'd be deleting most of them if I could!) I just have the ordinary Wikipedian's power to ask the admins to consider deleting things, same as you or anyone else. P Ingerson (talk) 08:45, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- If I knew anything about Roy Harper, I'd love to help you turn the page into something worthy of Wikipedia. I know literally nothing about the man. AFAIK I've never heard any of his singles. I certainly couldn't name one. I'm really not the best person for the job. Sorry. One useful tip though: according to Wikipedia naming conventions, List of Roy Harper singles might be a better name for it. But I really wouldn't know where to begin writing it. P Ingerson (talk) 08:57, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
If you want to create a Category, instead of a List/Article...
- Create or find an existing article for a Roy Harper single.
- Add to the bottom of that page.
- Click on the red link that appears at the bottom of the article.
- Edit the Category page, to say something bland like "These are singles by Roy Harper."
- Add the to the articles for his other singles. P Ingerson (talk) 09:03, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
-
- Hi again. It looks like you've already added the to a couple of articles. I've put a bland "Main article: Roy Harper" in the Category:Roy Harper singles page for you. Now you just need to write articles for all his other singles, and add at the bottom of all of them. (Remember, unlike a proper list article, the big disadvantage of Categories is that they can only list existing articles.) Good luck. P Ingerson (talk) 09:15, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Singles and Songs
Thanks for your note. I supported the nomination, and here's why: Several months ago, the people on Wikipedia:Categories for discussion agreed to eliminate the category "Singles by artist" and all its hundreds of subcategories, and put all their contents into artist categories under category:Songs by artist. You can read about it in this log entry. The end result is that all categories that are "(Artist) singles" will almost instantly be voted to become "(Artist) songs". Highly complicated singles (usually called EPs in the articles) can get shunted into the corresponding category of category:Albums by artist. Hope that helps.--Mike Selinker 14:16, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Singles into Songs
It took a bit of looking, but I've found it, see: Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_June_9#Singles_by_artist_into_Songs_by_artist. -- ProveIt (talk)
